In recent years, educators have found it increasingly difficult
to incorporate into their teaching and research elements of music,
such as making songs available for classroom use or quoting lyrics
in a peer reviewed journal article. Quite simply, it should be
easier for educators and researchers to make decisions about fair
use quotations of musical materials, and clearer guidelines will
enhance scholarly research without undermining the rights of copyright
owners. This study will help develop fair use guidelines that will
help alleviate these sorts of problems.
