Pedagogy Interest Group of IASPM-US

Purpose: The Pedagogy Interest Group is a forum to discuss any and all aspects of popular music pedagogy, from curriculum and instruction and educational research to outreach programs and more. Those interested in joining or finding out more can contact Group Chair Sonia Vasan at .

Mission Statement: The IASPM-US Pedagogy Interest Group fosters discussion and collaboration among members who share an interest in issues related to the teaching of popular music at all levels and in any instructional setting. The Pedagogy Interest Group promotes the exchange of ideas on such topics as the development of programs, curriculum, and strategies for popular music instruction. For example, discussions may examine lesson plans, research trends, instructional methods and the learning process, certification and training, institution-building, community-based initiatives, artist residencies, funding opportunities, educational outreach and other current or historical issues. The Interest Group also reflects and extends the objectives of IASPM-US by encouraging interaction among members with a variety of professional backgrounds, and by promoting an active partnership between scholars and individuals working outside the academy. Thus, consideration of popular music instruction in relation to technology, communication, culture, educational psychology and human behavior, business, law, or other fields is welcome.
