The Woody Guthrie Award  ::  Graduate Student Paper Prize

IASPM-US Graduate Student Paper Prize
Purpose: To recognize the most distinguished paper presented by a student at the IASPM-US annual meeting.

Prize
: A cash prize in the amount of $200.

Regularity:
Annually. The prize may be withheld by the decision of the committee.

Eligibility:
Any student who presents, in person, a formal paper at the IASPM-US annual meeting is eligible for the prize. A student shall be defined as a person pursuing an active course of studies in a degree program. This will include persons who are engaged in writing the doctoral dissertation but not those who are teaching full-time while doing so.

Application Process:
To apply for the prize, the candidate must deposit three copies of his/her paper in person to the Prize Committee Chair (or the chair’s representative) at the IASPM-US general business meeting at the annual conference. The student must also fill in a prize registration form, which will be distributed at the meeting. The time and location of the meeting will be listed in the conference program. The paper deposited is to be the version that is read at the conference and may not exceed twelve double-spaced pages (roughly 3,900 words). If audio/visual materials, handouts, or video presentation slides (such as PowerPoint slides) are used in the presentation, those supplementary materials may be considered in the review process. To have the supplementary materials considered, the applicant must hand three copies of the materials with the paper. Audio examples should be provided on CD; video examples should be provided on North American standard VHS format or finalized DVD. Handouts and video presentation slides should be printed out on paper.

Administration: The Student Paper Prize Committee will consist of three members of IASPM-US appointed by the President of the Association. The committee will be formed at least one month prior to the conference; no member of the committee may be a student. The Committee Chair shall collect the papers and supplementary materials at the conference’s Business Meeting. The results of the competition will be announced no later than four months after the conference.
